What the article fails to mention is that Debbie was dragged behind the car for almost 250 feet, her leg was almost severed, and her boyfriend had a compound fracture to his pelvis and head trauma & was not expected to live. Does 13.5 years seem just!? I think I'd feel better if he had to serve the time in a Mexican jail for God's sake!

The drunken driver, Luis M. Alvarez, was sentenced Tuesday to 13.5 years in prison for the fatal West Chicago crash, after which he fled the scene.
Alvarez, 25, formerly of Montgomery, faced three to 14 years in prison after pleading guilty earlier this summer to aggravated DUI. DuPage Circuit Judge Perry Thompson sentenced him Tuesday in an emotional court hearing.
"This was not an accident," Thompson said. "This was a crime. There are three broken families. They all pay a price in a different way."
Prosecutor Michael Pawl said Alvarez fled Sept. 22 after his red van struck the rear of a motorcycle near the intersection of Route 59 and Stimmel Street in West Chicago.
Rescuers found the motorcycle's driver, William F. Rezac, 55, of Warrenville and his female passenger, Deborah Atkinson, 51, of Lisle with severe injuries. Both were rushed to Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield.
A doctor pronounced Atkinson dead shortly later. Rezac was airlifted to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, where he initially was listed in critical condition, but survived the crash.
He was estimated to be traveling at least 78 mph in a 35 mph zone at the time of the crash.
"He fled and left these people dead and dying in the street," Pawl said. "The defendant chose to abandon his vehicle. He did not call 911. He did not get these people help. Instead, he chose to flee the state."
Alvarez, who is in the country illegally, has a criminal history that includes a 2000 DUI crash in which no one was injured. He also has two prior felony convictions for aggravated battery and obstructing justice.
Rezac survived, but he continues to suffer extensive physical injuries. Authorities also charged him with misdemeanor DUI after accusing him of driving intoxicated.
Alvarez must serve 85 percent of the prison term before being eligible for parole. He is expected to be deported after his term expires.

Last night in Hong Kong, the police received a disturbing call from a man in trouble.
Xing, a 41 year-old man, was calling from LanTian park in the middle of the night. The lonely and disturbed man had apparently thought it would be fun to have sex with one of the steel sit-up benches around the park.
The bench has numerous small holes in it, which Xing used to attempt to satisfy himself. However, once he became aroused he found that he was stuck and could not get his penis out of the small hole.
He panicked and called the police to help him.
When police arrive they found Xian stuck face down where he had been stuck for some time.
When doctors arrived on the scene they tried to release some of the pressure by removing some of his blood, but the penis was so swollen that they ended up having to cut the entire bench free and take it, with Xian attached, to the hospital.
4 painful hours later, Doctors finally separated Xian from his bench.
Doctors stated that if he had been stuck for even an hour longer, they would have had to remove his penis.
Lets just say this is probably one bad date that Xing will never forget.

In November 2007, news emerged from China that some hair bands manufactured there were found to have been made from recycled condoms. The prophylactic hair ties were discovered in Dongguan and Guangzhou, two cities in the province of Guangdong. (The colorful hair bands were believed to have been manufactured in Jinhua, a city in the province of Zhejiang.) The "secret ingredient" came to light when a young woman in Dongguan thought to investigate the hair bands given to her in a local salon after one began to fray, revealing an unexpected color inside.
"The hair bands are swathed in colorful wool-like materials," said Ms. Chen, the woman who found the condoms. "But a small part came loose when I used the bands to tie my hair up one morning. It looked strange to me because of its different color — not the yellow color we normally see in plastic bands. I peeled deeper and found something that looked like a condom."

Obama's verbal slip fuels his critics
Christina Bellantoni (Contact)
Sunday, September 7, 2008
ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Sen. Barack Obama's foes seized Sunday upon a brief slip of the tongue, when the Democratic presidential nominee was outlining his Christianity but accidentally said, "my Muslim faith."
The three words -- immediately corrected -- were during an exchange with ABC's George Stephanopoulos on "This Week," when he was trying to criticize the quiet smear campaign suggesting he is a Muslim.
But illustrating the difficulty of preventing false rumors about his faith from spreading, anti-Obama groups within one hour of the interview had sliced it out of context and were sending it around via email. They also were blogging about it.
Mr. Obama, who is a Christian and often proudly speaks about how his faith has influenced his public service, said he finds it "deeply offensive" that there are efforts "coming out of the Republican camp to suggest that perhaps I'm not who I say I am when it comes to my faith."
